이 과목은 학생들에게 데이터 과학과 분석에 필수적인 계산 능력을 함양을 목표로 한다. 데이터 과학분야에서 널리 사용되는 프로그래밍 언어와 도구를 사용하여 프로그래밍 기본 원리, 데이터 조작 등 기본적인 컴퓨팅 능력을 배양하고 기계학습, 소프트웨어 개발 등의 실질적인 문제를 해결하는 방법을 배우게 된다.
